Privacy Policy
Usage analytics
We count visits by page category on ctx.me and www.ctx.me using Google Analytics. We never send the address you visited, your project, item, wiki or skill names, your searches, or anything that identifies you or your account.
You can switch it off here. No payment and no account are needed, and the choice applies to both ctx.me and www.ctx.me.
Analytics is on for this browser.
Opting out stops collection straight away, prevents the Google tag from loading on later visits, and deletes this tag’s _ga cookies for the site you are on. Data collected before you opted out stays subject to the retention period in the policy below.
1. Introduction
Context Me ("we", "us", "our") operates the CTX Me platform, including the website, API, CLI tool, and MCP server (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Service.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information: Email address and name when you sign in via Clerk, our third-party authentication provider. We do not store passwords.
- Content: Projects, context items, documents, and metadata you upload or create through the Service.
- Communications: Any information you share when contacting us by email for support or feedback.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs: IP addresses, user agent strings, request timestamps, and response status codes are recorded in server access logs for operational and security purposes. These are not stored in your account or linked to your profile.
- Usage analytics: On
ctx.meandwww.ctx.mewe use Google Analytics 4 (measurement IDG-CF6SV477YW) to count how many separate browsers visit the site and which kinds of page they use. Each page view is reported as a fixed page category —/projects/:projectKey,/skills/:name,/signin, and so on — never as the address you actually opened. Project, item, wiki page, skill and folder names, search terms, query strings, URL fragments, authentication callback and redirect values, and page titles derived from your content are all removed before anything is sent to Google. - What Google receives: the fixed page category and its fixed title, the site address they belong to, the referring site (its domain only, or nothing), the
_gaidentifier described under Cookies, and the technical data Google's tag collects by default — approximate location derived from your IP address, device type, browser, and language. We do not send your account identifier, your email address, or any other data that identifies you, and we do not build per-person journeys. Google Analytics advertising features, Google signals, and ad personalisation are switched off for this property.
Turning usage analytics off
You can switch analytics off for your browser at any time, using the control at the top of this page. It is free, needs no account, and no sign-in. Your choice is stored in a ctxme_analytics_optout cookie for .ctx.me, so it applies on both ctx.me and www.ctx.me. Opting out stops measurement immediately on the page you are on, prevents the Google tag from loading on later visits, and deletes the _ga cookies described below. You can turn analytics back on with the same control. Data collected before you opted out remains subject to the retention period below.
Apart from the analytics described above, we do not use advertising trackers, cross-site tracking, or session recording tools.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- Authenticate your identity and manage your account.
- Store and serve the content you upload, including extracting text from documents to enable search.
- Respond to support requests and communications.
- Monitor for abuse, fraud, and security incidents.
We do not use your content to train machine learning models. Your context data belongs to you.
4. Data Storage and Security
- Your data is stored in PostgreSQL databases hosted on Fly.io infrastructure. Files are stored in S3-compatible object storage (Cloudflare R2).
- All connections to the Service are encrypted in transit via TLS (HTTPS is enforced in production).
- Authentication is handled via Clerk (a third-party identity provider) for web access, and API keys for programmatic access.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: Third-party services that help us operate the platform — hosting (Fly.io, Cloudflare), file storage (Cloudflare R2), authentication (Clerk), and usage analytics (Google) — bound by confidentiality obligations. Google acts as our restricted service provider for the usage analytics described in section 2: it processes that data on our instructions, for our reporting only.
- Legal requirements: When required by law, regulation, or legal process.
- Safety: To protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Export your content at any time via the API or CLI.
To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@ctxme.com.
7. Cookies
We use minimal, functional cookies required for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
While usage analytics is on, Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies on the site you are visiting: _ga and _ga_CF6SV477YW. They hold a randomly generated client identifier that tells one browser apart from another. That identifier is pseudonymous, not anonymous: it is not linked to your account, but it does single out your browser until the cookie is removed. Google Analytics 4 is not aggregate-only by default — this identifier is what makes the visitor counts possible.
These two cookies are host-only: a cookie set on ctx.me is not sent to www.ctx.me, nor to any other CTX Me service. A browser that visits both production addresses can therefore be counted as two users, so our visitor counts are an estimate and not an exact count of people. Opting out deletes both cookies, with the domain and path they were set with, for the address you are on, and prevents them being set again.
The ctxme_analytics_optout cookie records an opt-out. It is scoped to .ctx.me so the choice is honoured on both production addresses, and it contains no identifier.
We retain Google Analytics event-level data for 14 months, after which Google deletes it. Aggregate reports derived from it may persist longer.
8. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, etc.) via MCP and API. When you connect these tools, your context data is transmitted to them according to their own privacy policies. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of any tools you connect.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via email or a prominent notice on the Service.
